Community and business leader Justin McDonough has been appointed the new chair of the board of Trade Centre Limited (TCL). Economic Development and Tourism Minister Percy Paris made the announcement today, March 29. “As TCL continues to grow and plan for a new convention centre, Justin McDonough’s energy and business acumen will ensure the organization creates opportunities that support a diversified provincewide economy,” said Mr. Paris. Mr. McDonough is a certified financial planner and partner at Matthews McDonough Financial Planning Inc., with two decades of experience. He received a bachelor of arts from Queen’s University and earned Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Consultant and Elder Planning Counselor designations. He is also a dedicated community leader involved with a number of organizations, including president of the board for the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, vice-president and founding member of Holiday on the Harbour charity event, co-chair of the Citadel High Legacy Campaign and member of the board of trustees for the St. Andrew’s United Church. A current TCL director, Mr. McDonough joined the board in December 2009. His term as chair will run from April 19 until Nov. 30, 2013. Mr. McDonough succeeds Gordon Gillis, who served as the chair since October 2009. Mr. Gillis will remain on the board as a director until March 31, 2012. “Through his long-standing commitment to TCL, Gordon has provided my team and I with prudent advice and solid guidance and we are fortunate that he will continue on as a board member,” said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of TCL. “We also look forward to working under Justin’s leadership as we chart the course for the growth of our business.” Trade Centre Limited is a provincial Crown corporation that operates the World Trade and Convention Centre, Exhibition Park, Ticket Atlantic, Halifax Metro Centre, Major Events and World Trade Centre Atlantic Canada.
