Pickup intentionally driven into Lewis River recovered

first_imgRescue divers recovered a pickup Wednesday that police say was intentionally driven into the North Fork of the Lewis River about 2 p.m. Tuesday. The driver told a fisherman in the 44000 block of Lewis River Road that he was upset over an argument with his girlfriend and asked if he could call 911, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reported. When the fisherman responded that he didn’t have cell coverage, the man told the fisherman to tell deputies they could find him in the river, according to the sheriff’s office. He then drove his truck into the Lewis River, where it promptly sank in a deep hole, the sheriff’s office said. The man was able to extricate himself from the sinking truck, swim to shore, and leave on foot, Cowlitz County Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig said.He was not injured and no one else was in the vehicle. To recover the truck, dam operator PacifiCorp reduced the flow of the Lewis River Wednesday while divers from Cowlitz Dive Rescue hooked the pickup so it could be towed.Rosenzweig said that deputies have not cited the driver, but that remains a possibility.last_img read more
