Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in thenation’s capital, seeks a Dean of the School of Professional andGraduate Studies (PGS) upon the retirement of the incumbentdean.  The PGS unit includes associate, baccalaureate andmaster’s degrees as well as certificates in a range of professionaldisciplines including Education, Business, Journalism and MediaStudies, Strategic Communication and Public Relations, HumanRelations, Health Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology andsimilar disciplines.  The undergraduate programs focus on theeducational needs of adult students who have been out of school fora period of time and wish to enter or move up in professionalpositions; the graduate programs focus on students who seekmovement into managerial and executive positions, teaching andschool administration, or who are career changers.  PGScurrently enrolls more than 500 students and seeks to growconsiderably.  More than 90% of the students are women,reflecting Trinity’s primary mission in women’s education; morethan 95% of the students are African American and Latina, primarilyresidents of D.C. and the metropolitan Washington region. Dean School of Professional and GraduateStudiescenter_img The Dean reports to the Provost and working collaboratively withthe deans of other units.  The Dean must be an experiencedacademic leader who has a track record of working collaborativelyand creatively with talented faculty in developing effectiveprograms for students who come to Trinity across a range ofpreparatory backgrounds, professional work experiences and personallife challenges.  The Dean will be an effective externalleader to build programmatic partnerships with governmentalagencies, schools, associations and corporations in the Washingtonregion for student recruiting, internships and employmentpathways.  The Dean must be a strategic thinker who can workwith faculty, students, partners and Trinity’s leadership todevelop new programs or enhance existing programs and deliverysystems to keep pace with contemporary expectations forprofessional education. Internally, the Dean must have a goodunderstanding of academic organization and processes, able tosupport and direct faculty and staff in academic advising, programassessment and accreditation activities, faculty recruiting andprofessional development.
