first_img Related For the past 30 years, Louis Garneau apparel has played a key role in the performance, success, and professional appearance of the Canadian Cycling Teams at 8 Olympic Summer Games. In the 80s, my dream was to become a professional cyclist. Unfortunately, at the time, I could not be a pro and participate in the 1984 Olympic Games.”Garneau continued, “Saturday, I will be racing at the Canadian Championships in Beauce because I have decided to make my dream come true. In addition, I am the oldest Pro cyclist to be registered with the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale)! I will race the first hour and stop as soon as I have reached 60 minutes into the race. I will wish them well and leave the young cyclists to their race. I have helped a lot of them over the years, be it through my team, Team Quebec or Team Canada.“You know several of these names now: they are Hugo Houle, Antoine Duchesne, Bruno Langlois, Remi Pelletier-Roy, David Boily, Guillaume Boivin, Christian Meier, Dominique Rollin and many others. I cannot name them all; I’m afraid I’ll forget some of them. I would have liked to race this first hour with David Veilleux and Ryder Hesjedal, but you know the reason for their absence, the Tour de France!“This short hour on Saturday will be a way for me to pay homage to what I love most in life right after my family and my employees: cycling. I firmly believe in the talent of Canadians and in clean cycling. Good luck to all! As for me, I will retire from main event races on Saturday, June 22, 2013, exactly 60 minutes after the start of the Canadian Championships of road racing.I will finally achieve … my childhood dream.”last_img
