The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) says it will make major changes to the number of Cabinet Ministries in Dominica. Political leader of the Opposition United Workers Party Lennox Linton told the launching of the UWP’s Manifesto Goodwill on Wednesday 26 November 2014; the changes will see a reduction in the number of cabinet ministers from sixteen (16) to ten (10). “Our manifesto constrains us to downsize the Cabinet of Ministers from sixteen to ten and all politically created advisor positions will be eliminated”.“Apart from that there will be no reduction in the current head count of the public service, all existing public officers whether appointed or not appointed will retain their jobs,” he said. Mr Linton said with the reduction in ministries, public officers “will be retrained and redeployed as appropriate to important areas of government responsibility for greater public sector efficiency overall”. Meanwhile, Mr Linton added that a UWP government will also employ a parliamentary commissioner. “This document, this social contract commits us in the United Workers Party Team Dominica to appoint a parliamentary commissioner an ombudsman pursuant to the provisions of our 1978 Constitution. This has been outstanding for 36 years, we will get it done,” Linton said. There were 16 Cabinet ministers in the Dominica Labour Party government.
