Exclusive – Ameobi: ‘Newcastle players have had to stick together and fight’

first_imgSammy Ameobi feels that Newcastle are ready to kick on after he saw his side come from a goal behind at White Hart Lane to win 2-1 and stretch their unbeaten run to three games.Ameobi came off the bench at half-time and scored within six seconds to kick start a second half revival which takes the Magpies out of the bottom three.Following the 2-1 win in north London, Ameobi told Call Collymore: “It was always going to be a tough game coming to White Hart Lane to play a Tottenham team that has been playing well, we’ve had to fight through. It was a tough first half and the manager just said we had to give it our all, and we did that and we are really happy with the result.”The win at White Hart Lane means the Magpies have won back-to-back games for the first time since December 2013 and Ameobi believes the unity amongst the squad has helped turn their poor form around.“We knew we were under the cosh a little after a poor start to the season, we have had to stick together and fight and we’ve done that and we’ve ended up with two wins from two games – hopefully we can kick on now,” Ameobi said.Alan Pardew turned to youth in an attempt to turn form around, and Ameobi was quick to praise the impact young Spaniard Ayoze Perez has had at St James’ Park after the former Tenerife forward scored his first goal for the club.“Ayoze has been brilliant since he joined, it was tough for him in the first half up front on his own against two big centre-halves but he pushed through and got his goal and we are really happy for him,” Ameobi added. With Manchester City next on the horizon in the League Cup in midweek the 22-year old is daring to dream they can continue their mini-revival.He said: “We are going to take confidence from this, hopefully we can take that to Manchester City and anything is possible if we go out with the right attitude. We are looking forward to it.”last_img
